Multimedia is the integration
of multiple forms of medium ranging from text, graphics and
video to images, sound, speech and computer programs. There
are many examples of multimedia. The newspaper which uses
text, graphics or images and the television which uses sound,
video, text and computer programs are forms multimedia.
The home DVD editing software and educational software that
involves animations, sound, and text are also examples of
multimedia. CDs and DVDs are often considered to be "multimedia
formats" since they can store a lot of data and most forms
of multimedia require a lot of disk space. The latest generation
of mobile phones capable of taking and sending, text, voice
and photos are other forms of multimedia.
Dedicated devices such as digital video recorders (DVRs),
interactive television, MP3 players, advanced wireless devices
and public video displays fall in the category of multimedia.
The Electronic Card described that appears on this site is
another example of a multimedia presentation.
